Buy Black Belt WORK

The belts (Obi), especially belts of high grades, have for most of the practitioners a very special signification. A belt is often one of the most appreciated gifts a Judoka can have. A wrapping can be the final touch for an already great gift. We, therefore, propose a traditional Japanese carton made (covered with aluminum). On the top of the box, you will find the KuSakura logo (old style) and the kanji 御帯 inscription. It means "The belt" in Japanese. The silver cardboard box is made in a traditional manner, a Japanese process still very common today for making gift boxes.

This carry bag is made of the same fabric as the top part of the Judogi jackets (Sashiko fabric/rice grain weaving), but using raw (unbleached) cotton. This carry bag is made of the same fabric as the top part of the blue Judogi jackets (Sashiko fabric/rice grain weaving). A black stripe in the middle and two blue stripes at the top and bottom reinforce the bag and a label written "Judo" in English letters with the corresponding Japanese signs (Kanji) is giving it a stylish touch.

Identical in terms of material and finish to the thick black belt model JOG, the JGK Obi features the official Kodokan logo, the famous cherry blossom shaped Japanese flag. This logo is not a label (Orimono in Japanese) but a thick embroidery stitched onto the belt.

100% cotton, thick, rigid with 16 rows of top-stitching, we recommend this belt mainly to Judoka seeking a thick black belt, wanting a big knot and of course those who like the Kodokan logo from an aesthetic point of view.

The size table and recommendation are available by clicking on the "How to Choose your Judo belt" above the description, or on the dedicated How to choose your Judo Belt - Belt Size & Comparative Charts page.

The recommendation is made with a standard 'Judo' knot, not a double knot. If you do not do a simple knot, please consider a half-size longer to allow more room for the knot. Same advice for thick belts (which isn't the case of this IJF belt).

KuSakura has many belt models in its catalog, from white cotton belts to red silk belts. Below we only detail the models requiring a comparison. The belt sizes comply with the official Kodokan standards, corresponding to the standards of the International Federation. We provide a reference size chart based on the waistline or the hips (where you tie your belt). All Judo belts are designed from a semi-rigid cotton core, covered with a cotton or silk outer layer, and several rows of topstitching. KuSakura does not offer any thin belts of the "fabric roll" type.

Outside Japan, men and women have identical belt models, called mixed. In Japan, however, there are belts with a white line for women, and as these belts are available on our website, you will find them in the corresponding table below.

Only two white belt models are available. The Judo belt JWB, manufactured in China, is more than enough for beginners. The Judo belt JOWIB is also made in China under strict supervision of our craftsmen, according to the regulations of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and is an excellent choice for practitioners wishing to keep their belt for several years. (For example in Dojos following the Japanese system, in which colored belts are not used for adults.) There is only one belt model for colored belts available in all official colors (yellow, orange, green, violet, and brown), as well as blue and light blue (sometimes unofficially used for children) and also black, which makes this model the entry level black belt.

In the West, these belts are not used. In Japan, however, this women's type belt is required from the black belt. They are characterized by a reduced length of 5 cm compared to the men's model, and a central white line running all along the belt. These women's belts, sometimes used in certain traditional schools (excluding Judo), are an integral part of the KuSakura catalogue, and therefore offered as option on each belt that has the women's counterpart.

These are the Kodokan regulations, that are applied in almost all Japanese Dojo. The major difference is concerning the colored Judo belts that are reserved for children in Japan. In most countries, you can just ignore the minimum age stated if in your country the color system is also applied to adults. However, some national federations having different rules, we recommend checking what rules apply in your federation/dojo before placing your order. Note that "middle-grades", symbolized by two colored belts do not exist in Japan and are therefore not offered by KuSakura.

This is the black version of KuSakura's color belt range, the thinnest, narrowest and most flexible model. Little used in Judo as it is too thin. However, this could be a good choice for a belt used in competition, because it can be tied firmly with a width of only 4.2 cm and 10 rows of topstitching.

This is the first premium Judo belt. Relatively thin and flexible with a shiny outer layer, 15 rows of topstitching and a width of 4.5 cm - it is a solid model to last. Recommended to practitioners looking for a premium belt remaining flexible.

This is the second premium Judo belt, with a cotton core thicker than the model JE, and an outer layer of superior quality. Featuring 16 rows of topstitching and a width of 4.5 cm this belt is popular among Judoka because of its excellent performance and visual appearance due to its thickness. The JOG and JGK Judo belt models are identical regarding the finish.

This black belt is similar to the model JOG, very thick and wide 4.7 cm With 14 rows of topstitching, this Judo belt features a particularly large knot and looks very nice when tied. Note: Because of its thickness, only integrated embroideries are available on this belt.

The model JGS, 16 rows of topstitching and a width of 4.5 cm has a cotton core similar to the belt JOG, however, it is covered not with shiny cotton but with an outer layer made of pure Japanese silk. This luxury belt is mainly used to offer as gift.

This Judo black belt is officially approved for international competitions, designed with a feltlike cotton core a width of 4.5 cm and only 10 rows of topstitching, it is more flexible than non IJF models. The IJF standards demand flexible belts to ensure a tight knot, that does not easily untie during competition.

This belt is designed in the same manner as the IJF black belts, featuring 13 rows of topstitching, a width of 4.5 cm but a core made of feltlike cotton, making it more flexible and resulting in a knot that does not loosen easily. This is the essential belt for Judo Kata competitions on the 6th to 8th Dan level.

The official Kodokan belt in its high-end version, a cotton core covered with a Japanese silk outer layer. This deluxe belt is usually ordered in the context of offering it as gift to a high graded teacher, featuring a width of 4.5 cm and 16 rows of topstitching.

Because this belt is theoretically reserved for masters holding the 9th and 10th Dan, a level attained by only a few dozen people, this model is almost never ordered. To keep the KuSakura catalog complete and because it is also used on a "lower" level in some traditional schools other than Judo, it is offered here. It also features a classic width of 4.5 cm and 16 rows of topstitching.

As white and colored belts are not meant to be kept for a long time, it is not worth the 3-4 weeks manufacturing time and increased costs. Hence, integrated embroideries are not offered on these belts. However, non-integrated embroideries are available on all white and colored belts and performed within 3 additional business days.

Depending on the model, the thickness of the belt, country of manufacturing and whether the belt is IJF certificated, integrated and non-integrated embroideries are available. Please check the chart above for a quick comparison and the Embroidery Information page for further information on integrated and non-integrated embroideries.

Like all of our belts, this model is based on Kodokan guidelines, which is the most widespread standard in Japan. Composed of a core of soft cotton, and covered with a cloth of deluxe black cotton, this model has 9 lines of stitching for maximum softness. This model is made from the same material as the Soft White Belt, in black. This is the softest black belt ever made.

Please note that because of the softness of this model resulting on a small knot, size is 5 cm shorter than other models. When selected, the Aikikai mark is stitched on the opposite end (blank end) of the belt (see product picture).

We recommend to measure your belt and make your choice as you like it, but here are some guidance based on what we see the most on the mats. Note that women traditionally tie the obi on their waist and men on their hips.

When one buys their first white belt, one chooses whatever is available. Unlike for Judo or Karate, in Aikido, white belt is kept for very long, up to 3, 4, or 5 years. It is therefore more crucial for an Aikidoka to purchase a quality belt that can last for several years. For this, Seido offers two white belt models. The first is a super soft white belt model, easy to tight, made in Japan. The second model is the "Slim White Belt" entirely made in Japan as well. White belts produced in Japan are extremely rare, and we took great care in developing those high quality models, you will not be disappointed.

Seido black belts are all made in Japan. Our range presents 5 original belts. The soft and slim black belts are made with the same specifications as the corresponding white belts, especially designed to be worn under a Hakama (Aikido). We also offer a reinforced version of the slim white/black belt, a shiny "shushi" cotton black belt and a silk belt, very popular for gift purpose. Those 3 models are still fairly easy to tie, but are closer to the classic Judo belts you can find on the market. 041b061a72
